Selfie Harm (2020)

Selfie Harm is a 9-minute video where I perform various forms of "self-harm" by attacking images of myself projected on the wall. The theme is self-hatred, mainly derived from the selfie culture or social media. I chose this topic because it is something we all can relate to on some level, living this generation, having to concern social image.

The repeated actions are associated with the idea of "erasing". They demonstrate the urge to delete your existence and that it is impossible to remove your digital footprint. The layered images suggest the complexity of having multiple personas depending on the account. Although I added drawing at the beginning for variation, it seemed to make the actions appear less consistent to some people.
