Give Yourself a Hug (2018)

Give Yourself A Hug is a 50 x 250 cm interactive video projection on a pole with a performance element. It projects a horizontally flipped image of the person hugging the pole so that it looks like they are hugging themselves.

Technically, the image input from an external webcam connected to a computer is adjusted on a projection mapping software, and the projector casts the altered image on the pole. The performance element is that I stay hugging the pole for 5 minutes so that the viewers would have a clear idea of how to interact with the piece without literal instruction — this artwork is about self-love or a reminder for people to cherish themselves.
