Commute (Anywhere Door) (2018)

Commute (Anywhere Door) is a video projection artwork, approximately 2 m tall, on a wall which displays a teleportation door with varied destinations. The door is pink as it is referred to the Anywhere Door from a Japanese manga series Doraemon, and the door is animated so that it shows different places from my personal living area in Japan every time when it closes and reopens. This piece does not only explore the idea of making international commuting possible using the fictional technology but also is meant to convey the powerlessness I felt from not being able to stay with my family even when there is a sick family member.
